2013 Ardmore RAH!

The 2013 Ardmore RAH! raised $13,500, enough for the food bank to provide over 90, 000 meals to the hungry in northwest NC.
Jeff and Ethan ran the 5K; Sydney, Reid, and I did the fun run with Jake in the stroller.
Our company was a sponsor, and the daughter of one of our PTs won for the 12 and under girls 5K!
I love how our church body uses the gifts God has given us to put this on and how our community comes together to raise money for the hungry in Northwest NC. Our own city has so many that go hungry, especially children.

Shakespeare Festival

The Shakespeare Festival at school was Friday night. After the festivities, the middle schoolers performed The Merchant of Venice. Sydney's class recited Sonnet 116 for the queen before the play. The 2nd grade boys sold baskets of apples to everyone.

 Sydney dressed as a peasant.
The orange behind Reid isn't part of his costume :-)
School needed tents for the craft tables. I don't think our tent has ever looked so pretty!

 Jake had a sword too!

Ethan's Birthday

We had a cowboy and cowgirl party for Ethan and his classmates right after school on his birthday. We love noon dismissal!! Lunch was hot dogs, baked beans, veggies & ranch, and root beer floats for dessert. Sydney came up with calling the root beer floats "Fizzy Mustangs!"

Bird Nest

Ethan and his friend Luke David discovered this bird nest in our play house today! He then took these pictures. Ethan says, "I am thankful that a bird came into our play house and made a bird nest because in our old house, birds did not do that. I am excited about seeing the eggs and maybe see the little birds when they come out of the eggs!"

A Taste of the Country in the City

Today Jeff got to borrow a friend's pickup truck to get some soil for our garden. He loved driving around in it listening to country music! It was a little taste of life in the old house. :-)  Later, our friends who own the truck came over for lunch and the kids got to ride in the truck afterwards. Poor Jake had to nap while all this was going on.

You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy!

Oh, yeah! This is good! How many can we pile in there? My 3 older kids are in there along with our friends' 3 sons. They all go to school together and live just down the road.

Happy Birthday Reid!

Reid turned 5 this month too! For his party, we did a pirate theme. I did not make a cake this year. This was the first party I've never baked or had Jeff's mom bake a cake. Since Grammy wasn't going to be here for this party, and I didn't want to try to bake a pirate ship cake, we opted for ice cream sundaes! They were a huge hit! This was a fun party to plan because Reid really got involved in the planning. So did Sydney and Ethan. I couldn't have pulled it off without those 2!
Reid & I made pirate ships out of cardboard boxes.
We made cannon balls out of crumpled up magazine pages and covered them with tin foil.
It was such a windy day, and taping these boxes together and getting them to stand up was close to impossible. I don't think I could have done it without Ethan's initiative, good ideas and help!
The kids enjoyed throwing cannon balls at each other!
 Pirates!
The boys really got into the Pirate Pete book!

Sydney made a Pin The Key On The Treasure Chest game
Of course, the trampoline was a big hit. Thanks Grammy & Papa!
We gave Reid a new bike helmet for his gift.
Dinner at Riverbirch and more ice cream! (Be sure to read my below post on the dangers of sugar :-) )

Happy Birthday Jake!

Jake Martin turned 2 on March 3. We had a little party for him the day before. Jeff's mom made the cake of "Night-Night", which is his special blanket.

Lunch with siblings and friends Luke and Lizzie

What Jake does when he doesn't get his way about something.

Why eat one slice when you can just dig into the whole thing?

The "Night-Night" cake!  When he saw it, Jake started crying for the real blanket!
