Jeff and Sydney were talking about her dance class she'll be doing in June, and he also mentioned that she'd get to do soccer in the fall. Here's their conversation about soccer.
Jeff: You get to play soccer outside on a field with other kids.
Sydney: Well, I only like to play soccer in my backyard.
J: But it's fun to play on a team. You get to make friends, learn how to win and lose, but it's not really about winning or losing. It's about trying hard.
S: Well, I tried once to crack and egg, and it got all over my hands, so I'm not doing that again.
J: This summer, we'll have to watch the Olympics together. It has all kinds of sports- baseball, soccer, wrestling, track & field...
S: Well, I want to play the running game. Whoever crosses the finish line first would get to have whatever they wanted at The Dollar Tree... for free.

Reid is 10 Weeks Old!
Wow...has it really been 10 weeks since sweet little Reid made his grand entrance into the world? He is just the best little baby! He is reaching for everything; he even pulled a toy off his play mat (look out Ethan!), he coos so sweetly and has the cutest little smile. We are all completely enamored with this baby boy (as if you couldn't tell!) Here's a picture of him from a couple of weeks ago. Yes, I have more recent ones, but I just love this one because he is smiling. He weighed in at 11 lbs on Tuesday.
Last night, Ethan gave me a ride on the John Deere. The big JD that Jeff uses to mow the lawn. He sat on my lap with my arms around his waist, my foot was on the gas, and he did the rest. He drove me around the front yard, alongside the garden, around the blueberry bushes, circled around the jungle gym, then up and down the main road of our neighborhood. He's a fantastic driver for a 3 year old, but it was a little scary at times because I was allowing him to be in total control. Mom & Dad- now I know how you felt when I was learning to drive!
Here, Ethan shows off a worm he found when we were tilling our garden area.
Both Sydney & Ethan love spending a good chunk of their days outside. They love riding their bikes, swinging, checking out the garden, etc. One of Sydney's most favorite things to do, though, is picking wildflowers. She says she is going out to the meadow (the furthest part of our backyard where the wildflowers grow) to pick flowers. She asked Jeff if she could have her own flower garden, and of course Daddy said yes. Jeff talked to one of his patients who is a master gardener, and she planned a whole flower garden perfect for a little girl, complete with trellises and a shepherd's hook. I'll post pictures as they start to grow, but for now here's one of our little sweetheart with a freshly collected bouquet from "the meadow."

Sydney & Ethan's Recent Funnies
Ethan and Sydney keep us laughing with what they say and do. Some of the things they say are just too funny not to share. Here are a few of their recent comments.
E: Mommy, can you help me get my jammie shirt on?
M: Sure.
E: I can't get it on cause I got this big ol' head!
Jeff was on his way out the door to go to work this morning. I told the kids to thank him for going to work.
Sydney: Thank you for going to work Daddy!
Ethan: Daddy! Thank you for paying money for us!
E: Sydney was scared, so I had to calm her down.
M: How did you do that?
E: With a rattle. (pause) You use a rattle to calm a baby.
M: Sydney's a big girl. What do you use to calm a big girl?
E: A big rattle.
I was explaining the primaries to Sydney. She said, "Oh, so it sounds like a game. Like if there was a football game and Davidson County beat Clemson."
The kids sometimes call Reid "Rudy." Sydney said Rudy is short for Reid. I told her that it is actually short for Rudolph. Later that day when Reid was napping, she said, "Rudolph is asleep in his crib."
Sydney drew Ethan a birthday card with a picture of 2 kids and a toy between them. She sweetly said, "Ethan, I know you like to grab, so I drew a picture of you grabbing a toy from me."
Sydney: Reid is the cutest little seed in the garden.
